Most people are interested in plays because they can relate personally. Lots of plays are based off of real life events, whether the stay exactly the same or some aspects are changed. In the play The Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, two teenagers fall in love. The title indicates the tragedy and chaos that happens in this play. All of this in the end, plays a role in how Romeo and Juliet end their lives together.
Mercutio and Tybalt acted purely on impulse. Mercutio was always trying to start fight, which ultimately led to his death. He said anything and everything that ever came across his mind. Tybalt didn’t like the Montagues at all. To him, they were his family’s biggest enemy. When the two lovers, Romeo and Juliet got married, Romeo ran into Tybalt in town and then said that him and Tybalt were now family, Tybalt started to get mad. Mercutio stood there taunting him till they started to fight. Romeo tried to get them to stop but it didn’t work.
After Tybalt killed Mercutio instead of Romeo, Romeo was upset that his best friend was dead and he ended up killing Tybalt, his wife’s cousin, himself. Romeo didn’t mean to cause all this trouble, especially not to kill a family member of his new wife. He was then wanted for his crime, so he kept hiding, then he heard the news that his new wife was dead. Juliet had decided to ‘kill’ herself so she wouldn’t have to marry Paris. When Romeo saw that Juliet was dead, his first instinct was to get poison to kill himself. Then, when Juliet saw Romeo was dead, she also killed herself.
Close-Minded. Juliet’s parents, Lady and Lord Capulet have a strict ‘plan’ that they want Juliet to follow with her life. They don’t exactly care about Juliet, yet they are forcing her to marry Paris solely because he was related to the prince. Juliet stood up for herself by telling her parents that she was in love with Romeo and that she had already married him. When Juliet refuses to marry Paris, her father, Lord Capulet threatens to kick Juliet out of their home and family.
Maybe if Juliet’s parents hadn’t been so persistent or if the Montagues and Capulets hadn’t held out this grudge, they would have still had their children in their lives. Parents now in the modern times are much more protective of their children and most want to give their child whatever is best for them.
